A Conversation for Meditation: Advice for Beginners
Focusing on the breath
wanderfulwonderings Started conversation May 3, 2005
I have found a way to help focus the mind on the breath when I first sit, is to bring my hands together (in praying position) in front of my chest, or mouth, inhale, and as I exhale, push my hands away directly in front of me (really feeling the push, yes). This is done with the breath. As the exhale becomes an inhale, the hands come back with the breath. Then on the next exhale, I push my arms outwards to the side, and bring them back in with the inhale.
I find doing this a couple times before I begin helps a lot.
(good post btw)
