Breathing excercises used to seem so boring and pointless ,but total meditation eluded me,until I practised the breathing cycles and light fell upon me when finally and joyously meditation arrived.Words cannot describe the feeling of achieving total meditation. My teacher also helped to train me to go to a beautiful place in my mind and with the help of my imagination and the hypnotic qualities of his voice I finally found this blissful state.I revisit meditation at every opportunity I can.Yoga is something that once discovered never leaves your life.

Oh, I agree about the breathing cycles. I usally breathe counts of seven at the start of meditaton before I can get in the right mindset to just let things go. Its an easy way to secure youself, not to mention relax during a stressful moment at work or school.

Yoga also helps me manage my unresolved anger(that sounds like I have a problem but only with the odd things that make me smiley - crosssmiley - laugh)My yoga teacher taught me that anger hurts ones self and instead of the object or person it is directed against.Yoga has been so good for me especially in bad times like grief when my father died.It gave me a sense of well being back even though my life was upside down at the time and it really helps the healing process of the mind.I hope I am not starting to sound too evangical.smiley - peacedove

It sounds like you have had a really postive experience with your practice. I can tell by the language you use and the enthusiasm that comes through!

How long have you been meditating now? What style of yoga do you do?

Nice to meet yousmiley - smileyI was introduced to Yoga as a teenager and have been practising ever since(about 20 yearssmiley - yikes)I cannot imagine my life without Yoga it really is like a good Faithful friend to me now.I have also met a lot of good friends at classes and sadly have had the loss of a couple of good guru's(although their teachings live on)
I have tried most types of Yoga but find Ashanti and Drew my favourites.I haven't really ever been to a class I didn't enjoy but some guru's you just prefer or connect to I think. The age ranges that go to classes amaze me from pensioners to children and from the superfit to the disabled, and everyone can participate and add something to the class.Sorry I am getting evangical againsmiley - blush
What about you ? are you an avid Yoga lover toosmiley - biggrin

Hi there,

I like yoga. I am interested in yoga philosophy as well as the postures. I have visited India and it was quite an experience for me. I am also very much into breath meditation. That is the main focus of my spiritual practice.

Where do you live? I used to live in Lancaster, but I am now an English teacher in Japan.

Japan is an interesting place to be in. It takes your breath away actually (excuse the pun!). There is constant movement and things happening. I have been here six months now. People are friendly, but they work hard. For me it has been a little difficult to find that right balance between doing enough work to surivive and overworking.

Many people overwork here. It is part of the culture. Trains are full at midnight all over Japan with people coming back from work and/or going out with their work mates after work.

Some of the temples here are quite impressive. I haven't seen so much as I have been sorting out getting a place to live and getting my working arrangements in order.... but now I am going to have more free time and I will go to some famous places soon...

It is good to meditate in a place like this, as you see the effects quite clearly if you don't!

Good evening to yousmiley - hug
You sound as though you really have been very busy.Starting a new job, finding somewhere to live in a new country cannot be easy.I am sure the energy of the Japanese people must be quite infectious which is probably why you have found it hard to strike the right balance.
I could imagine how beautiful some of the temples are*sighs wistfully*and I always believe that you absorb some of the atmosphere when you visit a place of worship. It is an uplifting experience for the soul.
smiley - laughI am sure that you do see the results of not meditating, in a very busy work based culture.Let it serve as a reminder the spirit needs nurtured and cared for or it will suffer badly from neglectsmiley - smileysmiley - peacedove
Have you managed to see any of the countryside yet ?I am sure that will be quite spectacular along with the famous places.Enjoy it all if you cansmiley - biggrin
Have been studying in the garden today a welcome change from the college. The fresh air always helps me focus my mind more easily. It was really warm today in the sun and this evening I had more energy than normal from my yoga class.I must of stored up some of the energy from that sunshinesmiley - magic
Until next time may the peace, the love and the light go with you
