Pink Floyd heavy metal? No way, man, they were to soft, psychedelic and progressive to ever dabble in that genre.

I guess the keyword is 'influences' in the sub-title.

Pink Floyd is - in some way - influenced, or has influence on HM... smiley - erm but I agree it's a bit far fetched.

Floyd influenced loads of Ambient and Prog bands. Though most prog metal bands are influenced by Rush really.

Why is it necessary to put music in a genre? If you like it , you like it. Take away the rules and boundaries, its art for f*ck sakes.

It's not necessary to pigeonhole music, in fact I usually don't like to...but that doesn't change the fact that Pink Floyd is totally NOT heavy metal.

Well ofcourse that goes with out saying. Doesnt really matter that much to me. I'd like pop if it wasnt so much like pop.

Actually, Pink Floyd's The Nile Song from their 1968 soundtrack album More is probably the very first heavy metal song. There's a 30 second excert on the Amazon page for More. Unfortunately, it was their only metal song although Careful with that Axe, Eugene is pretty heavy.

yeah, you are right, "nile song" is pretty heavy and I would add "let there be more light" from "sourceful of secrets" in '69. of course they aren't HM but they influenced a lot, TIAMAT is a good example.
