A Conversation for Cwm Rhondda: The unofficial Welsh National Anthem

Oh my darling Clementine

My dad used to sing 'Oh my darling Clementine' to Cwm Rhondda. It does fit, but you have to 'lose' part of the chorus. Try it if you don't believe me:

In a cavern, in a canyon
Excavating for a mine
Lived a miner, 49er
And his daughter Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling Clementine.
Dreadful sorry, Clementine.

(The chorus should be:
Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine.
Thou art lost and gone forever.
Dreadful sorry Clementine)

Yes, it does work. Try 'While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night' to the tune of 'On Ilkley Moor Ba-tat'.

That's my favourite version of that carol. Hubby and I bought a tape of Christmas carols some years ago, and that was on it. It took us by surprise at first, but it does work and sounds great.

I am making a series of programmes for BBC Radio 4 with Bryn Terfel about iconic Welsh songs and would love to hear from anyone who might like to contribute. If you have any thoughts, views, or stories about either Myfannwy, Cwm Rhondda or Sospan Fach - and wouldn't mind me visiting you with a microphone for 10 minutes!- then please get in touch.
My number is 02920 167118
Thanks
Llinos Jones

Does that mean you want to use my material on Cwm Rhondda?
