A Conversation for The 1970s
Memories of the 70's

I turned 11 in 1970, bought my first single (My Sweet Lord by George Harrison and I'm sure it cost me all of 7/6 - that's 37 1/2p in new money), bought my first LP (Bridge Over Troubled Water/Simon & Garfunkel - 21/6 but I could be wrong), went to my first concert (Status Quo 1977 at the Odeon, South Clerk Street, Edinburgh)and got a girlfriend for the first time (the lovely Ann - I wonder what happened to her?). I also got drunk for the first time
I loved glam rock, hated punk, watched things like The Tomorrow People and Multi Coloured Swap Shop - never TISWAS although I did think Sally James was better than Maggie Philbin- on the telly and drank loads of Fanta and Coke without worrying about e numbers or the damage the sugar was doing to my teeth.
I never got the Bruce Lee/kung fu thing but was into Tubular Bells before I knew about the Exorcist connection. Oh, and Weebles wobbled but never fell down!
Right, I'm off to find my loon pants and platforms now and think back to a time when I was actually taller than most of my friends!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
