Post Room 101
Created | Updated Sep 2, 2004
'Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the
world.'
- '1984' by George Orwell
Post Room 101 is the place where all the bad things are stored here at the Post Office, and
now we are going to give you the chance to place your three 'worst things in the world' in there as
well. All you have to do is send me a list of your three least favourite things and the reasons why
they are. Your things will then be placed up for a public vote by your fellow Post Readers. If the
Post Readers agree with you, your things will then be placed in Post Room 101 and the door locked,
if not, they will remain in the world and you will just have to put up with it!!
Please make sure that your list of three things does not include actual people or Trade Names.
Send me your list of three things and the reason for each to me at [email protected] and please
remember to include your h2g2 Researcher name and 'U' number so I know who you are. I will then
shortly be in touch with you if I need more information or I have any queries.
If you prefer we can discuss the things you would like in Post Room 101 via a conversation on
h2g2, though of course these would not be private, but it may be something you would prefer doing.
If this is the case please leave a message at The Post
Room 101 Message Service on the Post Office homepage.

Last week LLL Waz
submitted The necessity to vacuum/hoover, Tea and King Lear for you to vote on. The debating was as usual brisk and straight to the point. Tea was voted over-whelmingly to be kept OUT of Post Room 101 with King Lear narrowly escaping as well. Unfortunately the necessity to vacuum/hoover was a tied vote and as I get the casting vote I have decided to throw my lot with those who wanted it placed into Post Room 101. Well done LLL Waz, necessity to vacuum/hoover goes into Post Room 101. The voting on this list of three things is now closed, thank you for your participation.

POST ROOM 101 NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Our seventh submission for Post Room 101 comes from Egon, and here is his list of three things he would like you
to vote on to go into Post Room 101.
- People who refer to all scandals as X-gate.
So that's you, tabloid journalists. The Watergate scandal was referred to as 'watergate' only because
it concerned the Watergate hotel. It was not a scandal about water. So terms like 'cheriegate' about
the Prime Minister's wife buying a flat, or 'fariagate' about a secretary having affairs with members
of the Football Association, MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It's lazy, inaccurate journalism and it's
very annoying..
The same goes for referring to all addictions as X-oholism. Alcoholism is an addiction to alcohol. So the
only correct use of, for example, chocoholic is someone addicted to chochol, not someone
addicted to chocolate. - People who wear sports gear despite having no interest in the sport in question.
Now, I have several items of New York Yankees clothing- two baseball jerseys, one jacket and a few
caps. I also have a New England Revolution American football jersey, a Boston Bruins turtleneck
jumper, and football shirts of the likes of Everton, Sunderland, Cowdenbeath, Brugge, Netherlands,
Czech Republic, England and others.
But the thing here is that I follow these sports very closely. Ask most of the people buying Yankees
caps in sports shops on a daily basis what they think of the Yanks' ten and a half game lead over the
Red Sox in the AL East, they have no idea what you're talking about (I have tried this experiment from
time to time)
This can also apply to people who wear band T-shirts of bands they don't like- I remember coming
across someone who actually thought Korn was a clothing brand rather than a rock group. - People who complain about sport on TV.
Lots of people complain when sport is shown on TV and their favourite soap opera/science
fiction/documentary/quiz is cancelled for a week or two.
You know the youth of our nation, who are getting increasingly lazy? Well, whenever there's a major
sporting event on television, many of them will go out and play sports as a result. In the time around
Wimbledon, the only major tennis tournament to get extensive coverage in the UK, the tennis courts of
the country are more packed than at any other time. Every time an England cricket match ends in
triumph, kids take their bats and balls down to the park. During the Olympics, children will go
swimming as they dream of being the next Ian Thorpe, go running as they try to emulate Christine
Ohurugu- it's vital that the youth of the nation have as their role models sports stars, idols who will
encourage them to exercise, rather than idolising pop stars, soap stars etc.
Now it's up to you readers, if you agree with Egon that his things should go into Post Room
101 with the other 'worst thing's in the world' then vote in a conversation below. Similarly
if you don't agree then tell us why also in a conversation below. The votes will be tallied and if the
yays get more votes than the nays then Egon's things will be placed in Post Room 101 and
locked away forever.
Items/things put forward have automatically one vote for them and if the voting
is tied I will have the casting vote.
Voting closes at midnight GMT on Tuesday 07th September.
