Won't using seaweed for its saltiness cause harm to plants?
Luckily I have a shitload of birds nearabouts so although slugs are plentiful, they rarely kill anything, since nature is culling them.

Just give it a good rinse to wash the salt off.
Most people who are likely to try the seaweed method will probably live close enough to the seaside to gather it. In which case a little bit of seaweed isn't going to make any difference to the amount of salt in their garden.
