It was bound to happen. No sooner do I write an article mentioning Yer Man's, or it sold, given a facelift (note the lack of the word "improvement" anywhere in this posting!) and opened under a different name. It is now known as "Courtney's", lacks sawdust and high levels of atmosphere, and is now frequented by strange people. Of course, it was always frequented by strange people (myself included...) but now they are of the "normal" strange persuasion. I.E. they are boring, lack any sense of musical taste (I have, in fact, heard Britney Spears being mentioned in a favourable light by one of the "patrons" of the place...) and are generally altogether too straight.
It still is the best place to go, surprisingly enough. While not being as good as it was before, it still manages to maintain a slightly more underground feel than most other places. Happy hunting!

Britney Spears?I shudder to think of it.You have my sympathy.I just wished to ask you about your comment on the patrons of this ravaged watering hole being too "straight".Perhaps you could explain a little on how straight is to straight?Thank you

Hi!
Thanks for reading the article...
Too straight, in my books, is defined as being too, well, normal, I guess. The type of person that is more worried about being cool, and not standing out from the crowd, than about being individual. I think that most people are quite interesting, but a lot seem to supress this in favour of herd instinct. Which is a real shame. And anyone who thinks that B. Spears is in any way musical ought to be shot straight off.
Hope that answers your question
Take care, and welcome to H2G2...

Shot! There are people out there that might feel that shooting someone for bad taste in music might be a bit much.Maybe going that little bit to far?Do you usally find that violence solves your problems? If so ...Id like to hear more No,just joking. But I have to say that resently I have found that I seem to turn to thinking of large guns when something is bothering me.I have decided that maybe I should try to leave that sort of thinking behind.Do you think that it is the films I watch that make me start to think that way?Do you think Im the only one? What is your thoughts on this?how would you sujest that I get away from that sort of thinking?

I dunno. What kind of films DO you watch? I'm sure they influence us to a degree, but I think as long as we're moderately sane to begin with, we should be OK. I don't think violence solves anything. Personally, I will be the first to make jokes about death, and shooting and sorting out problems, well, permanently (from the other guys point of view, of course, but only because it is so far removed from actuality.
I'm not sure how to stop thinking of guns (BIG guns) when confronted with a situation. I've never taken it all that serious myself... I think Doom has a lot to answer for...

Hey, Drag-on!
Good to hear from you again. Don't worry about coming on a bit heavy - I don't mind in the slightest. There's a time for everything, and being serious has to be done.
My name, well, it's an anagram of my RL name, which is probably why you never heard it before.
Yeah, I do a fair amount of off-roading (whenever I get time, really). I love going up mountains, but even more do I like going down them... There's just such a rush from dodging anything from potholes to rocks (unsuccessfully, the last time, as I gather you've read) to pedestrians (aka cannon-fodder ). At high speeds, of course. Are you from around here? You seem to know the area. And you're definitely right about the gawdawful state of the roads... I find I get to places almost as quick on the bike as by car. Hmmm. Something not right there, is there?
Anyway - I'm not too badly hurt. My elbow is pretty painful still, as is my hand, but they are semi-operational. Handy, that...
Talk to you soon!
