In the article of newcastle-upon-tyne, Newcastle united is said to have the nickname of the magpies because of the black and white strip. If anyone reads the NUFC homepage you'll find out that the strip was actually red and white. What it doesnt tell you is that they are called the magpies because a dominican priest used to lead them onto the pitch and his black and white priest get-up was where the name Magpies came from. This is right because I'm a Geordie!
