A Conversation for British Fish and Chip Shops

From Distant Shores

Nash's, Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton, Leeds

A traditional Yorkshire fish and chip shop, frying downstairs, checked tablecloth dining upstairs.

The best fish and chips that I have ever tasted. The fish is fresh, the batter crisp, the chips just right, neither soggy nor hard. I believe the deep golden brown colour and extra flavour come from being fryed in the traditional beef dripping rather than vegetable oil.

Rock and a Sole Plaice, Endell Street, Covent Garden, London.

Away from the tacky touristique West End is what is known as the best chippie in London, also handy for Neals Yard (home of fantastic deli's etc) and a well kept secret: the Oasis Swimming Pool & Lido to work off the Fish & Chips or just sunbathe, right in the middle of Covent Garden.

Hartley Brook Chippy, Shiregreen, Sheffield.

Not in the most desirable of locations, but it serves the best fish and chips this side of the Pennines - and it's Whitby Fish also, which is even better. I heartily recommend the battered sausage, too...

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Few in Lowestoft area I know.... At teh seafront itself, the one on the pier is great (the murmaid, or Dolphin, I forget the name....)...

Pablo's opposite the local college of FE is damn good too, and nicely not too far from the Triangle Taven pub smiley - ale (which has its own brewry at teh back)...

Unfortunatley don't know any really decent fish n chip shops where I now live as they're all supposidly far too far on the other side of the city to make getting them a reality smiley - dohsmiley - wah
