Punks

Ruler of the Universe ( Lurking Omnipresently in the shadows)

You forgot Punks. I'm one of them. We are a cross between skaters, goths, and freaks. We all listen to Punk Rock (hence the name) at very high, eardrum killing, decibil levels. Most of us skate but not all, and we all wear dark clothes most of the time, sometiimes we wear bright clothes, I have a Gumbi shirt that i rather like.

Unfortunately, punk seems to have died around 1986. I quite liked it, too. Punk is too widespread now to be punky.

Pope Edgar Montgomery 3rd, Lord of all that's heavy and electric (and ANARCHY), now not grooming for 1 week+ as a statement, and

You be wrong. Punk lives on. For example- Linkin Park, Blink 182 and the Offspring are all example of punk music. I was one until last friday when i went heavier. I'm Goth to the gills in under 3 days. RULE ANARCHY.

If I may "punk isnt dead...But it deserves to die" That was said by the Dead Kennedeys(sp, which is true, when it became mainstream and loses the rage that once fueled this culture. Now it has become who has the biggest hawk and smokes the most reefer, not to forget the latest new "punk" concert. I admit during my life I was a punk from the early days whence my uncle sat me down and told me about Sid Vicious and so on. Anyways punk is not dead, just made soft by the mainstream soul sucker.

I have to smile at this, and not in a condescending way either..
An old French philosopher said "Plus ca change, plus la meme chose" which translates to "the more things change the more they stay the same"
In one sense I agree, you could argue for Punk dying in the early eighties, by definition, all the rest is kind of post-punk rock. However, GreenDay's current CD, with it's political passion and energy, despite their ages, and it's commercial success has whatever punk had then, and I think would have fitted in at that time.. what do you think?
Mind you I'm not sure about the previous contributor, making bying a new CD sound like giving up heroin!

True punk is no more. It's one of those things that needs an energetic, spontanious spirit. There are still old punks around, but as far as I'm aware there's not much of a "punk scene" in the same way that we still have the "goth scene"
Punk evolved into post-punk, goth, and probably a few other genres I don't know the names of. Modern punk-inspired bands like Green Day and Blink 182 should never be called "punk" or "punk rock" as this is extremely insulting to real punks.

if you search for punk on mtv you will never find it, but if you search for it in some old building with strange people around it and loud music coming out you could be at the right spot. And you could find out that the big, grim looking guy isn't that bad after all.
I don't know how it is in america but calling Green Day or Blink 182 punk here is not a great idea, punk scene is mostly driven by bands that have never had lp or cd, because they had no chance in some cases, and because they didn't want one in other. Som on the other side have their albums published, some recorded at home and just put it on internet.
Punk is not dead, people just don't know where to look for it, and i guess punk's not looking for people smiley - winkeye

I have noticed that in every classroom, the kids wearing black always choose the desks in the back onthe side with the door.

The Uk does still have a punk scene!
Sub Humans anyone?
Sonic boom six?
Adequate(sp?) seven?
Freaks Union?
not to mention other european bands such as the Antimaniacs and Left Over Crack (awesome name)
I spent my college years at tiny venues in london at punk gigs, a lot of unknown, unsigned bands but it was disillusioned and dirty and fabulous!
Punk is changing but it's still punk in its ethics and values at the core of the music and the diy non-conformist attitude. It's boring if we don't evolve!smiley - biggrin
