h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

My husband and I will be staying near Cannes in May 2003 and I would like to get the flavor of the famed film festival without being trampled (or worse, humiliated) by the glitzy crowds. Any suggestions about ways to get in on the fun, maybe even see a film, and still remain sane? Is there such a thing as budget Cannes?
