Have you been to Easton lately?
No crime? Hardly. Stabbings. Shootings. Robbery. Easton's got it all, especially since 9/11, when terrified New Yorkers decided to move out of the city and commute from all over the Lehigh Valley. (The Bloods, Crips, and Latin Kings have even relocated to - of all places - the Poconos!) Just take a gander at a current Express-Times newspaper if you'd like to know about the crime. Of course, the crime rate in Easton is slightly lower than Bethlehem or Allentown. You can even ask an Easton resident - if you can find one that speaks English. So much for the Pennsylvania Dutch!
20 years ago, it used to take 15 minutes (or less, if you caught all the lights just right) to get from South Side to the edges of Palmer or Forks Townships; now, you're lucky if you can get to the Palmer Mall from South Side in 45 minutes or less!
Easton's growth is unchecked, and has changed my beloved hometown to a place I dread returning to. It really is a shame, since it used to be a great place to live.
Oh yeah, I moved the heck outta Easton 3 years ago, to a nice quiet village in New Hampshire, where I don't have to worry about the crime, and I don't have to listen to the drug dealers' car stereos thumping down my street at 3 am!
