Oh No, Not Another American!

Welcome to my personal space. I am madmum22, and yes, I am an American, although my genes are both Scottish and German - somewhat diluted, of course.

I am married with 2 daughters, both over the age of 20. My youngest daughter is an Anglophile and has been calling me "mum" for years; hence, my nickname. My husband of 25 years and I live in New Hampshire, though we are originally from Pennsylvania. I have a cat named Gandalf (and we got him well before the LOTR movies came out, so you know that I actually read the books!) I am a certified secondary (5/7-12) English teacher, though I have been unable to find a teaching position since we moved to NH 3 years ago.

I love to read, and both my husband and I are great fans of Douglas Adams. I know that everyone thinks that English teachers sit around all day reading Shakespeare or Thomas Pynchon, but my favorite authors are more popular: Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Laurell K. Hamilton, John Sandford, Terry Pratchett, Jeffrey Deaver, and the incomparable team of Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston.

I love tea. Herbal tea. With honey.

Want to excite me? Tell me about a good horror movie that I haven't seen yet. It has to have something more than just sex and gore, though! I think that the best horror movie of all time is the original, "The Haunting," based on the Shirley Jackson novel. That film was creepy and terrifying with little or no special effects.

Concerning men: tall, dark, and handsome, with their mouths shut. Remember that I've been married to a blonde (who doesn't know when to shut his mouth) for 25 years.

I am looking forward to some scintillating reading here at h2g2, and can only hope to contribute a wee bit to this community!
