Check if the local cafeterias have a daily special, a dish or drink that is reduced in price on a particular day but full price the rest of the week. This is the case in the Student Union here, of the coffees they sell, each day there is a reduced option, giving a daily saving of about 20%. Worth asking the staff, just in case.

Not only in the student union/cafe; When I were at Uni, one of the local pubs did a great deal on meals on a certain day, for students; buy one meal, and the other is free; so you can buy two meals for yourself and a student friend effectlively at half price (and they did the best Fish and chips I've had outside living at the seaside )... more recently I remember my brother, who's only just now finished University, saying that there were a few places near their university which did simular type offers, one a pizza place which sounded both very good and relaly good value with the student discount and the other a cafe/Italian which was a bit more upmarket but had a simularly good price saving deal on
