If you want to give blood in Australia, there is another restriction to add to the list.
"If you have lived in the UK for over 6 months between 1980 and 1996".
As I recall, it is to do with BSE ("Mad cow disease") but I'm not 100% certain that is the reason.

Similar in Germany. I can't give blood here even though I'm O-Neg as I lived in the UK during Thatcher, sorry Mad Cow.

Yup - I tried to give blood in France and they wouldn't take it.
Gave blood on Friday - happened to mention I felt a bit funny afterwards and they had me lying on the floor for an hour!
