Nope sorry. Still don't know.

You were right with mine, though.

Alright, here's one from my all-time fave film, which also happens to be the first film I ever saw at a cinema:

(making a toast)
Here's to swimming with bow-legged women

Now, I think it's easy, so no clues on this one (unless you ask really nicely)

It was in Yellowbeard. Can't actually remember who has the riposte (I think it's Eric Idle), but John Cleese is the blind inspector with the "cloth eyes" and excellent hearing.

I'm going to have to start being nice I can see. If we're contemporaries, which I suspect, your first film in a cinema could have been (over) 30 years ago. My memory is that long (or longer) but not that good!

Please, a clue.

Yellowbeard? Never heard of it, let alone seen it! Oh well.

Ok, to narrow down the timescale for you on mine; I'm 33 and I saw my first film in the cinema when I was 7. The film was on its first release.

Does that give it away?

My memory is longer than yours, but less precise. I did a quick search of films released in 1976 (there's over 560 of them). Some ominous titles like Casanova sound interestingly appropriate, but unlikely to allow 7 year old audience members.

Bugsy Malone was also released that year, so I'll go for that, but I've seen it myself several times, and can't remember that particular toast. Still, at 7 it would have been a blast!

Ok, another clue then. The year was actually 1975, and the same charcater also liked to sing a ditty about "fair Spanish ladies".

Silence reigned and we all got wet! Have I stumped you, or are you just too busy?

In case you're findign difficult, here's another clue:

The film in question had several sequels, one of which starred Michael Caine (who was not in the original) and one of which (possibly the same one) that was in 3D

Finally...of course...the movie is Jaws. The speaker is probably the Quint, played by Robert Shaw.

Although the memory is pretty vague, I think it's when he, Roy Schieder and Richard Dreyfuss are floating around in the boat during the night, just before the start with the "my scar is bigger than yours bit"--but it's only a dim memory.

A seminal movie, Jaws--I should have remembered it earlier. I can distinctly remember sitting back in my seat in fright the first time the shark is seen surfacing when Schieder is throwing burly over the back--scared the pants off me.

I'd love to be able to share a quote with you from the first movie I saw (remember seeing) in a cinema, except it was in Russian, and I don't have a great memory for sub-titles. The movie was Dersu Uzla (sp?). Loved the movie, though.

Also, have to share with you a fabulous line I heard on a re-run of Ally McBeal my wife was watching the other night:

Fish: I have a friend who refused a urine test because they wouldn't give him time to study for it.

LOL

Here's a simple one:

"You're from outer space?"
"No, I'm from Iowa, I just work in outer space."

Hi there,

That sounds suspiciously like Captaine James T. Kirk; I think it's from the film (can't remember which one it is) where they go back to 20thC earth to try and save the whale, or something like that.

Did I get it?

Brad, in Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Ah, Rocky Horror ... one of the seminal movies of my time. A defining experience to a mid-teenager. Great music, fun movie, risque bits, and a sci-fi theme. What more could a guy want in those troubled years.

Here's another simple one from another, much later, defining movie:

"This zoo, this prison, this reality. Whatever you call it."

That's O'Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) in "The Mummy", just after the boat has sunk.

Still don't have a clue on this "It went away" one; any help gratefully received!

I know this, or at least, I've heard this. But I can't place it at the moment. A clue might jog it free.
