A Conversation for The Discovery of Fire

tea before the fire? The egg before the chicken? huh?

Moon da Misbegotten

If there was no fire, then how could there be teatime? Does teatime actually involve tea? Did our ancestors use the sun-tea method, sticking a bunch of weak, inferior tea bags into a glass jug filled with water from the clearest stream they could find and brew the tea that way? Let us know.

I believe it was a joke, but just in case I've ordered original camcorder footage of the incident so I'll check it out.

Since I am one of those researchers who is older than dirt and actually was in attendance at the discovery of fire [at least that's what my kids think] I must comment.

The teatime situation was not pretty before the discovery of fire. Picture early man [and woman] becoming restless at teatime. Putting out lovely china cups and pots. And having no way to actually boil water to make proper tea.

Oh, the shame of it all. The hard feelings when people were invited for tea--only to discover there was none. The hunger pangs, weakness and fainting spells due to a lack of proper stimulants.

Unless, of course, the camcorder footage discovers some way of making tea by hitting rocks together. Then history will have to be revised.

Has anyone read The Princess Bride? I mean the book. Talk about your silly chronologies....

One of the few movies that actually lifted dialog right from the book.
Wise screenwriters.
Great book.

The screenwriter also wrote the book, as it happens...and a good thing too.

Beer:
Vegetables and sugary things in pot.
Keep warm.
Forget about.
Remember about.
Drink.
Fall over.

..."But not chicken's eggs."

Àye!

There lies the paradox.

The egg comes first.
