A Conversation for Elastic Band Warfare
Confession of an ex-laggy-band flicker
Captain Bagpuss and for this week only also known as "Nervous Newbie" until I get the hang of it Started conversation Apr 20, 2001
I stand before you begging for forgiveness. I myself was a champion laggy-band flicker but recently, *sob* I have turned facist and have started to confiscate the bands from the kids at my school.
I have even been heard to say the words "Do you know how dangerous that is, you will have someone's eye out in a minute".
Is there any cure for me now?

Yes.
Form a pistol shape with your hand.
Wind a laggy band around the tip of your little finger (pressed against the palm), around the back of your thumb, and then hook it onto the tip of your index finger.
Now you have a laggy-band Wesson.
These are such fun to fire (although the trajectory can be very erratic) that, instead of confiscating elastic bands frm your pupils with the well-worn phrase, you will soon begin to threaten them to relinquish the weapon at gunpoint, adding much more fun to the task!

You could try making the kids fire at a target in front of the hole class with the threat of a test for the hole class if he can't beat you.
P.S. please don't give me lines if you lose!!!!!!

Many thanks for the advice. I teach at a C of E school in Lincolnshire, so confiscating laggy bands is seen as "The Right Thing To Do". A plus is the fact that I now have a pocket full of bands to play with myself...
Has anybody ever made one of those balls from laggy bands? I tried once but had it pinched. Blasted kids, so onward the vicious circle turns - i confiscate bands, turn them into a ball, ball gets nicked, i confiscate bands......

Oh Lincolnshire's fine. I never grew up there.
But did you ever teach a kid called Andy Pickwell?

I made a laggy band ball once, it was HUGE....
...ok, I'm lying, I nicked it. It was still huge, but you'd expect them to bounce really far, wouldn't you? But no.
-stoop,nicks laggy-band balls from innocent kids.

I've had a good time making the band-balls. I've got seven, the largest being as wide as my hand... I didn't buy any of them... One big one takes several bags of bands and maybe 10 hours. You start with a big wad and wrap bands around it and it'll become spherical after a while. It's FUN!
