A Conversation for Black Cats
Black cats are not black

Well, looks like I'm the first to comment this year.
I realize that this was created long before I became a researcher, and updated (November 2005) before I began poking around Peer Review, but I think it's time for another update to clear up one extremely salient point; Black cats are not black!
Although I suppose that I cannot say with certainty that there are absolutely no black cats, most every black cat is actually a very deep brown shade. Underlayment of other colours can tend to make black cats look a bit differently shaded. The "Black Cat" in our house looks as black as any I've seen to the naked eye; but a close look, under good light, shows her to actually be a deep sable brown with a silver undercoat.
Best do a little research on it, but then it needs at least a footnote to the effect that if only black cats are bad luck (or good luck), we needn't worry about them very much!
