Lucky Star's 42nd Birthday Meet - Luxembourg

0 Conversations

Saturday 11th October 2003.
Venue, the Musée Nationale d'Histore et de l'art de Luxembourg.
Myself and Pilot747 arrived and waited to see who else would find the place. Spotted Wotchit, who'd dragged himself away from the cricket. Got a call from Toybox, who was en route. So 4 researchers - not bad! You can view a somewhat blurred photograph of the attendees here

We had a good old tramp1 around the museum. Its prized possession is an entire Roman mosaic floor, impeccably maintained, and sited in a room with a minstrels gallery so that visitors can admire the intricate designs and pictures from an excellent vantage point.

The 5 floors below ground are dedicated to the past, while the upper floors contain art, notably some lovely Magrittes.

Our disappointment that the cafe appeared to be closed because of a private function was mollified somewhat when we discovered that the guest of honour at said function was none other that the Grand Duke himself 2! Which was nice...

We found a spot on the Place d'Armes3 for coffee, where there also lived a rather maniacal dog who attacked each of us as we tried to leave...

Home to Chez Star to prepare for the rest of the evening - cocktails and dinner at Chi-chis, where the sombrero-wearing guitarist even sang Happy Birthday to me. On for a bit of a pub crawl to Urban, the Tube, Yesterdays, Ecosse and the Pyg...

A quiet Sunday morning, the highlight being my famous bacon and egg breakfast. Oh, and I opened lots of lovely presents and cards!!!!!

Thanks to Toybox for coming all the way from Reims (and for the bottle of champagne), and to Wotchit who I finally got to meet, after chatting on line many times!

Its quite good being 42, you know.
