Great entry to start with. smiley - ok Reading it, it reminds me that some 25 years ago I helped my younger brother to modify his electric bass (new pickups) and build a bass speaker out of a do-it-yourself kit.

But, well, you asked for typos: smiley - winkeye

Oh, and I think you should credit Queazer (U48701), as you've used his entry in your last para.

Thanks very much, will do all changes- the last para. is the original entry, so I had nothing to do with it.

I think what SchrEck meant is that you need to include this other researcher in the "Written and Researched by" bit. When you press edit entry, scroll down to the bottom and stick his U number in the box, next to yours.

What'll happen then, Red Fox, is that the Queazer will appear as the Author of the Entry and it will be "Edited By" you. But when the entry eventually gets accepted and the update is done, you and Queazer will be joint authors, with Queazer's name appearing first.

Yes - I should have explained that, sorry. smiley - smiley

Notes on changes I made:

- (Who is sometimes, incorrectly, given credit for inventing the electric guitar entirely) -> (who is sometimes, incorrectly, given credit for inventing the electric guitar entirely)- I left this the same and would prefer not to change it unless it is a Guide format issue, in which I can make all the bold text italic.

Anything else?

Post 29

Is there anyway I could get a credit besides just "editing"?

I know that's technically what I did, but still, I wrote and researched 10 times what Queazer did...

You'll get a full writing credit in time - it will appear as 'Edited by' until it gets picked, just an odd system quirk of h2g2!

Hi RF,

thanks for not letting you put off by my big list of suggestions - the entry has improved a lot now. It's a great entry, just in case I hadn't said it before, and I couldn't think of anything else to say about electric guitars. Well done!

But... I've found a very few things that still ought to be done -
* (In the 1980s, of course) -> (in the 1980s, of course)
* Hawaiian style guitars 1 began to emerge -> (delete space before footnote)
* still some ’ need to be replaced by '
* according to house style the tags need to be replaced by I'm afraid

That's it - I'll come up with some more links later, promised.

Fixed and added all of the above, so I went looking for some more articles to reference.

Scanned the page for " marks to change to ' marks, and found only one occurance outside of ML, that being 4"x4", four inches by four inches. if it was changed to 4'x4', it would read four feet by four feet, which seems a bit big for a guitar.

A3913238 - The Electric Guitar

Post 36

added as many Guitarists as I could find to the end of the article, didn't look for entries for all of them, if you by chance find some, let me know.

LETS GET THIS THING APPROVED!

Looks great now! smiley - cheers The only thing left is the first person reference towards the end - 'and that's all I can remember right now' - I'm afraid this has to go. But apart from that, I also think it's finished. smiley - biggrin

OK, here's the result of my proof-reading.

Warning: by normal procedure, the picture will be removed, as the Eds normally choose the picture for Edited Entries. Very occasionally, they will use the one suggested by the author, and this one is just perfect, so I'd leave it in for the moment.

General:

You've used extended ANSI characters for a half and three quarters. These should be replaced with ½ and ¾ for compatability with weird browsers and non-Windows machines. Note that the semicolon is part of the code.

the 60 times per second reversal of the AC power generated by the pickup -- add a footnote Mains frequency is 60Hz in America.

Transistors, being solid state, are either on or off -- this is complete rubbish. Please remove this sentence. The rest of the description is OK without it.

This section doesn't mean much at the moment and needs to be removed or better explained:

"When an amplifier is at a high gain setting, the guitar strings or body may 'hear' itself in the speaker output. When the strings begin to harmonically vibrate with their own sound, it creates feedback, a high pitched squealing or whining tone."
