A Conversation for Jaffa Cakes

Have you tried these? Delicious!

There was also a similar biscuit (yes, biscuit!) with white chocolate & a cherry filling, not produced by McVities i think, & i can't remember the name. (It was something like "Pimm's", but not that.)

I was living in Edinburgh at the time but i don't think they were exclusively a Scottish phenomenon.

I think you are referring to the similar delicay made on the continent under the brand name Pim's.

These too are a small round sponge base topped with a flavoured jelly or mouse and then coated in chocolate.

They are available in orange, pear and raspberry fruit flavours as well as mocca mouse, chocolate mouse with hazelenuts and a number of other chocolate flavours I cannot remember.

They are certainly as good as Jaffa Cakes - a pack only lasts one sitting because they are so moreish.

I think I remember trying those years ago and they were made by Burtons.

The ones I really love are the dark chocolate raspberry filled biscuits and the white chocolate cherry filled ones, delicious. But I don't know where you can buy them in this country. I discovered these in France, all the supermarkets sell their own brand varieties. Please let me know if you can buy them anywhere over here.

same here in Belgium, not only are there the Pims brand ones, but as you say, all the supermarket own brands have their particular varieties as well.

Like you have not found them in the UK.

Spoke to the biscuit buyer from Waitrose about a month ago to ask if they would consider buying in the Pims brand. Said how much I loved that brand and that I thought it was a very good idea to have more than one type of Jaffa Cake available and thought they would sell well. I was told it would take a couple of months as they had to get the samples in and would only consider buying them if they were sure they would sell over here. Let's hope they do decide to stock them.

Another idea I have is to ask McVities about considering manufacturing the raspberry and cherry ones. What do you think? If you can get them anywhere on the continent, then why not here.

First of all, I would just like to take a moment to appreciate Jaffa Cakes..............

.................Ok.

These alternatively flavoured Jaffa Cakes sound very interesting, and I'd love to try some. My only concern is the layer of "mouse" in them. I'm not a vegetarian, and I've no problem with eating gelatine. But I'm not sure about putting mice in biscuits (or cakes!), or any sort of meat really.

The only time I remember mouse in my jaffa cakes was when one popped its head out of a 'Pims' box in a kitchen of a self catering house I was staying in a few years ago. I'm sure it enjoyed them as much as me!

Has anyone tried Lyons jaffa cakes, I would say they really are the best. Also, as you can only seem to get these other variety of jaffa cakes abroad, does anyone know if you can buy them mail order?
