What is this stuff, anyway?

Music is a little strange, if you think about it. Why should a sequence of sounds have such strange effects on people? Why do certain sequences of sounds sound good and others not sound like anything at all?

If you think about it, music can reflect what is all around us, with rhythm, a rise and fall in strength, and harmonies. this is nature, this is life.

yes, it can. Makes you wonder, though: why do noises do that? I mean, what distinguishes music from noise besides its effect?
