very yummy article, this was.
i heard german soldiers used dried and powdered roaches as an coffeesubstitute in africa in WW2... could be an urban legend though.
and the best possibility i found to kill a cockroach was to by a bottle hairspray, point it to the beast and put a flame to it... stinks awfully... and take care of your hair *ugh*

The real trick (as with all coffee) is to warm the roach first, before you put the hot water in.

Also how strong should it be? Maybe it should be used black with lots of sugar. Ugh.

Pretty yummy. I'm wondering if it's better as a sleep substitute...

I heard a story that (I think it was, but do correct me if I am wrong) Evelyn Waugh went to his men's club with a selection of crunchy african delicacies that had been given to him.

He shared them with the members, although he didn't eat any himself. When they had eaten them all, he announced that they were actually just deep fried cockroaches, that he had cooked himself that morning.

Urgh!

sounds like one of those "you just ate dog-food-stew" stories... but I'm happy not to be one of Evelyn Waughs pals smiley - winkeye

they aren't low in fat!! The internals of a cockroach consist almost entirely of disgusting, smelly, icky fat!
I had to disect one of the buggers... and change the clothes afterwards!

for a zoology course...flying cockroaches all over the room, cause somebody was to stupid to close the jar tight. interesting "noughty bits" they have though - look like a opened swiss army knife... but oh my, that smell... smiley - winkeye
