Same name Differnt animals,
I live in New Zealand and have meet (And killed with no regrets!)
several opossums (This animal eat native forest in a desstructive manner). However I have seen video footage of an "amirican"
opussum, they are differnt as detailed below.
The New Zealand (Bush Tailed) and Australian Speices have flat noses not unlike a cat, the US counterpart with the same name has a pointed nose can hang by its tail and is much more dangerous!!
During a resent trip to Melborne, Austrailia I meet up with another speices of opossum. (possibly ringtailed)It's smaller and a hell'ova lot cuter than the fat ol' bush tail. Wouldn't kill an endangered/protected animal so it was fine. They can be domestecated and the ones in the park in Melbourne came so close you could have picked then up. (not a good idea though!)
Note: Opossums (Aus,Nz) are stunned by bright lights!! aka. Car head lights....
vrrrrrroooooommmmmm!!!!! .... squish!
Note: the act/art of swerving to kill possums is well practiced in NZ as it is a helping hand to many Native plants and animals!
