If there are any revisions to this article (and I hope there will be several - it looks as though there is a wealth of interesting stories to be told!) I hope somebody better informed than I will take the time to research, and tell in full the story of the improbably named Orlando Whistlecraft, a Victorian era resident of the Suffolk village of Thwaite, and noted as a "Weather Prophet", perhaps one of the earliest scientific meteorologists.

Sounds fascinating! Do you know anymore about this character, Orlando Whistlecraft? A quick search of Google shows that he published a book called 'Whistlecraft's Weather Almanac'.

I wish I did. I'm no longer in the country so can't go and ferret out churchwardens and others who might have more information. My one and only brief encounter was during the "Church Chase" - a cycling tour of as many churches as possible within the diocese, discovering the history of the churches as we went.
