My Towel
hitchhiker1030 Started conversation May 10, 2005
Ever since I read HHGttG I began carrying a canvas totebag with "essentials" in it.
Contents:
a pack of pens
lucky charm
single serving cereal in disposable bowl
notebook
a large white beach towel
(end)
I carry this EVERYWHERE school, store, etc.
just in case there is a Vogon Constructor Fleet on it's way to sector ZZ9 plural Z Alpha to turn into a intergalactic bypass.
If you don't carry yours you should really consider it.

I too carry a bag of essentials. mine contains my towel, George, a notebook, some pens, a small travel shower bag, a tin of tea, along with peanuts and beef jerky. This goes EVERYWHERE! I live in Joppatowne, so people tend to stare when they see some chick walking around with this huge bag on her shoulder, and a towel over her head .

hey May 25th is Towel Day! http://www.towelday.kojv.net/
and also i discovered that when in the unenviable position of getting out of the bath and discovering that there is no towel to dry off with that.... yes!! a plush DRY washcloth will do the job!!

thank YOU for telling me that! makes me feel useful!
you named your towel George!? do tell how you came up with that?!
i didnt name my towel... but i always name my car... always a female name cuz i believe in reinCARnation and i think the personnae reinCARnated into cars are females with bad KARma who are being PUNished by having to spend a lifetime within the confines of the one earthly physicality that they would most abhor...
so i name my cars pretty female names and treat them with gentleness, humor, sensitivity, and understanding.... and give them the occasional flower

I too have an emergency satchel. It currently contains the following:
1. A largish yellow and white stripped beach towel.
2. three ball point pens.
3. two pads of paper.
4. one pack of playing cards.
5. five feet of re-rolled duct tape.
6. two half liter water bottles.
7. some toilet paper.
*8. copy of THHGTTG (real thing, not novel)
* I wish I had this!!
In essesence, I have everything I need to survive the universe.
Any suggestions for what else I need?

I long to be a hitchhiker and carry my home on my back.
The joy of being penny less and surviving well.
to lose weight but gain muscle.
to feel scared for your existence and be empowered.
To take 10 lifts to guildford then 2 to cardiff.
Hitchhike, you'll be poorer than your mate in mcdonalds but thrice as happier. even at school I have my

I think you have almost all you need... perhaps though you could consider a compact Ray Mear's survival expert (shrunk to fit in your bag) and or Steven Fry, Love love x

i don't think i have a satcel big enough to carry everyting i'd need!
if i did this is what i'd take with me:
towel (largish and purple)
books x 3 or 4 (HHGTTG, and a few others)
pens
pads
money (just in case though if i was a hitchhiker i wouldn't need much)
mobile
maybe if i was being really organised extra undies (though not if i was just going about day to day)
string (cos you never know when you'll need some string)
an umbrella (a towel only works for so long, eventually it'll be soaked to)
and a jumper (what if i need my towel for something else at the same time see?)
and that would be my entire hitchhiking kit but for day to day stuff i would probably take out some stuff like the raincoat unless it looked like it was actually going to rain. and the jumper to.

oh and bandaids
i like bandaids. they're useful and they make you feel better when you've hurt yourself even if you aren't bleeding.
