Bez (arguaby the finest figure of a man ever found wearing Bez's underwear) <underpants>

Apparently in the late medieval/early renaisence periods one of the most common subsitutes for the (as then undiscovered) tomato sauces was a fish paste. Aparently mashed up roasted vegitables were also sometimes used.

Yes, the fish paste is called garum or liquamen and I was lucky enough last summer to visit the ruins of Bolonia in Andalusia which is one place where it was made. (Hi az, hi Nog!)
