A Conversation for Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland

There is so much to relate about this beautiful place.
For example, the children's BBC programme 'Balamory' is based in and around Tobermory. It features a clever blend of outdoor shots (including one they use frequently which must have been taken from outside the Tobermory Distillery) and, presumably, studio sets.
Then Duart Castle. It's history is fascinating and includes tales of marooned fair maids, Spanish Armada prisoners and a shipwrecked galley supposedly laden with gold. Because the 27th Clan Chief was also Chief Scout of the Commonwealth, there is a large Boy Scout exhibition (well, there was when I went last in 1989). He was also Lord Chamberlain to Her Majesty's Household and once travelled on the Royal Yacht Brittania to Duart where he and his family entertained the Queen. There was great excitment when she moored up just off Craignure.
There are Highland Games in July, a Food festival is September and the extremely hairy Isle of Mull Car Rally (not for the timid driver!)
Well worth a visit are:
Food; The Coffee Pot in Salen
The Isle of Mull Cheese
Drinking; Apart from all the friendly pubs in Tobermory, the pub at Dervaig holds regular ceilidhs and has an impressive choice of whisky.
Fishing; On the route between Tobermory and Calgary there is a little village called Croig. Take one of the roads leading to the coast from here to find a brilliant place for rock fishing. If you are lucky and there when the mackeral shoals come in, a few spinners will see you with enough fish to keep you fed for days. It is also possible to hook a few salmon and eels! When we were camping at A113923 Calgary we found a couple of locals happy to exchange fish for firewood and even meat! Do ask before traipsing over the farmer's land though.
I'm feeling so nostalgic now! Still, I can relive old memories by looking at my photographs and by a quick trip here:
