in california there is an architect called Nadir Khalili who invented what he calls ‘superblock construction' (also called Velcro adobe)
Its quite interesting…. The principles of construction are simple: soil filled fabric sacks or tubes are stacked on each other to create walls and domes. long point barbed wire layers are used as 'mortar’ between the bags to prevent them slipping. (hence 'velcro')
A version of this interested NASA for building on the moon
Khalili is also a pioneer of Ceramic architecture.. what he calls ‘earth and fire systems’ where you build domed houses out of adobe blocks and then glaze and fire the bricks by turning the whole house into a kiln.
Its quite interesting .. a kind of innovative and contemporary take on an ancient well-established architectural construction method.
