Is there any essential difference between a Soma cube and a Soma rhomboid solid (shape with six faces, each of which is a rhombus)?

Off the top of my head I'd say yes, as once the pieces have been formed into rhomboids they will lose some of their symmetries (particularly rotational symmetries) that allow the pieces to be re-formed into different solutions to the puzzle.
