A Conversation for 'A Christmas Carol' - Five Film Adaptations
Stage productions of the musical Scrooge
Pimms Started conversation Dec 7, 2005
This Christmas Tommy Steele is performing as Scrooge in London. People who have seen the show tell me that, like some of the film versions described, Tommy has enlarged his role somewhat at the expense of developing the other characters. That is not to say it is not an enjoyable show, but it is not as true to the story as other stagings of the musical.
My knowledge of the 1970 film with Albert Finney (on which the subsequent stage musical was directly based) was until this year limited to knowing it had the song "Thank you very much" in. However, as described in my journal thread, I have learnt a lot more since I was cast as Jacob Marley in an amateur production being staged over this Christmas.
