Altoids
Created | Updated Dec 30, 2005
An Altoid is an incredibly strong variety of peppermint, denoted as 'curiously' strong by their manufacturers, Callard & Bowser. These mints are much stronger than typical mints; the secret of their strength lies in the use of real peppermint oil in the recipe.
A company called Smith & Co came up with this ingenious concoction in 1780, while King George III ruled Great Britain. Smith & Co eventually became enveloped by Callard & Bowser, an English candy company established in 1837. They have been selling Altoids to the public ever since.
The ingredients consist of:
- Sugar
- Gum Arabic
