There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation Jul 12, 2004
Some time in the 80s I think, there was a song - it might have been called Barracuda, or maybe it was by The Barracudas. It had a spoken introduction, and one of the characters kept saying 'bacaruda', until someone asked him to say 'barracuda'.
"I can't say bacaruda"
"You mean barracuda"
"Yes"
Well try this - repeat after me: ba"
"Ba"
"Ra"
"Ra"
"Cu"
"Cu"
"Da"
"Da"
"Now put them all together"
"Babararacucudada"
Wish I could remember which song and by whom - Google's no help

I'll ask Lord Scott when he comes home tonight - it's helpful having an oldies loving DJ in the family.
Assuming this is a song that would have had airtime in the US... I don't think I could help you much if it's a song that never made it to the States.

Well, I remember it being said with American accents, but I guess that's no gaurantee it was American?
Funny, I'd have put it earlier than the 80s Gosho.. more like the late 60s. Does it all merge into one when you get to an advanced age deary?

The sixties and seventies never existed, they're just figments of your imagination, if you still have one, and if you don't, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
Sounds like an early-1960s song, since silliness was wildly popular at that time. In an era when "One-eyed, One-horned flying purple people eaters" and "My friend the witch doctor" were popular, "Babararacucudada" would have been golden.

Well, I'm pretty sure I remember it from the 80s although it could have been an earlier song, and yes Fb - it was said with American accents The final 'Babararacucudada' was said with relish

I remember the song and although I (maddeningly enough) can't remember who sang it, the darn thing made such a profound impression on me that I can't say bacaruda either.

I asked Lord Scott, and despite the American accents, apparently it was not released in the US, or at least not widely played here.
However, he said that there are some UK top 100 sites, you could do a google for that and maybe come up with a place where you could search for it by lyrics.

Probably the reason you can't find it is that it is spelled with two Rs.
There was:
"My Barracuda" by Jimmy Buffett/Michael Utley/Russell Kunkel/Steve Cropper
"Barracuda" by Quantum Jump
"Killer Barracuda" by Kris Kristofferson
"Barracuda" by Angkor Wat
I am thinking it was "Barracuda Song" by Heart, since that is the only one I have actually hear.

You know what? There was a commercial for the Plymoutn Barracuda which featured a salesman and a customer doing exactly that routine.
Dealer: I'm a Plymouth dealer, I deal in men and right now I'm
giving the best deal ever on that deal, fast moving, fastback
the Plymouth Baccaruda.
Young man: Hey man, the name of the Plymouth fastback is the
Barracuda.
Dealer: I know...I can't pronounce Baccaruda!
Young man: Hey, that is a bad thing, man, like you being a Plymouth
dealer and not being able to say Barracuda!
Dealer: I'm hip, I mean, I know...
Young man: Oh well, look man, try this...
Dealer: What?
Young man (begins to sing and swing and the dealer sings and
swings along): BA-BA-RA-RA-CU-CU-DA-DA..... that's it man!
Dealer: BA-BA-RA-BA-CU-CU-DA-DA..... Yeah, still not right, huh?
Young man: Well, it isn't Barracuda, man, but I think we got a hit
record!!
They then played part of the song "Barracuda"

I don't know if the song was called Barracuda or if it was by The Barracudas - I have a feeling that it's the latter cos there's something in my head sayin 'Bacarudas'. There was an 80s punk surf band called The Barracudas. I don't recall anything about the song except for the intro.

Here's your answer:
The original 1965 commercial for the Plymouth Barracuda led to a snippet of "a song". I'm not sure what the sing was, but there must have been a 1965 hit called Barracuda.
In the 1980s, the band The Barracuas put out a song called "Summer Fun" which started with the commercial and led into their song....
