The Mystery of Room 42

When I looked at the timetable for my University modules in this semester, I was delighted to find that my Monday morning 'Revolutions In Literature' class was to be in Room D42 of the biggest Bradford University building. D for Douglas Adams, 42 - I knew I'd never have any trouble remembering that. smiley - towel

Imagine, then, my consternation when I got to the building yesterday to be greeted by some of my classmates who told me that we had to go to another room, because D42 simply wasn't there! No room with that number existed on D floor. A notice had been left directing us all to another room in another building, where a very enjoyable session studying the works of Wordsworth duly ensued. smiley - book

But what, I wonder, happened to Room D42? Did the Vogons demolish it? smiley - alienfrown Has it fallen through a rift in time and space, taking some unlucky students with it? smiley - tardis The official explanation is that D42 does exist, honest, but the Uni maintenance people just hadn't gotten around to putting the sign with the magic number on the door. We're going on another mission to find it next Monday. I'll look out for hovering smiley - ufosmiley - ufo, just in case.

Anyway, the 'Hitchhiker' motif of the week continued at my rehearsal with the mighty Bradford University Society of Operettas and Musicals (BUSOM) tonight. We're doing 'Fiddler On The Roof', and during rehearsals of that lovely song 'Sunrise, Sunset', our musical director told us to try to sound happier, because at the moment she thought we were singing like Marvin the Paranoid Android.

Personally, I took that as a compliment. smiley - dontpanic

Uncanny! I've just found this on youtube...

I'm in the process of moving house, and discovered the 7" vinyl copy that I acquired when Radio Leeds did away with their record library.

Spooky.

I'm proud of you for sounding like Marvin. Depressed? Don't talk to me about depressed. My mother has moved in with me for a couple of weeks while she's recovering from a fall. She expects me to wait on her hand and foot and she's taken over MY chair. I'm really looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

*AHEM*

"...there was also a planet entirely given over to room D42 life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended room D42s would make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely D42-oid lifestyle, responding to highly D42-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the room D42 equivalent of the good life."

Ormy, when and if you actually find room D42, you've got to post the details on this thread: F5739526?thread=3609922

smiley - ok Great clip, Number Six! Hyp - I hope work was fun - relatively speaking... smiley - bigeyes

I'm getting increasingly worried about possible alien interference at Bradford University. I've just had an e-mail about my *other* class: Contemporary Debates, on Tuesday afternoons. It says that we have to move to a different room next Tuesday because '...they are doing some work on the control panels apparently...'

Who THEY are, and what the control panels control, is not explained... smiley - martianfrownsmiley - yikes

Today, Room D42 materialised. smiley - tardis I was still a bit suspicious, though: the sign on the door was merely a piece of paper with 'D42' written on it, and there was a curious smell of lemons in there.

I knew there was something odd going on. But anyway, we settled down for another (as far as I was concerned) very enjoyable session on Wordsworth. And then it happened...

Seven students left Room D42 for the smiley - coffee break... AND ONLY FIVE CAME BACK!!! Is a Vogon captain, even now, telling the missing two 'Never mind this Wordsworth. I'll give you some *real* poetry.' smiley - yikessmiley - ufo
