I've taken it apart and blow dried it. The consensus seems to be that if I leave it dry out thoroughly for a week, it *might* work. Maybe. Or maybe not.smiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wah

No need.....

I would be gutted if mine died..... having said that when the new shaped nanos came out I was nearly inspired to do my own bit of "consumer fetishism".

I've done that with a pager and a cell phone in the past, and leaving them to dry for several days did help (though the LED on the pager gave out soon afterward). I hope your iPod survives the ordeal. smiley - goodluck

Here is something to console you for at least the first 2O minutes of revival. Just lie back, think of Scotland & tell me about your childhood...

My friend's cell phone survived a night in a cup of coffee. Well, kind of survived, the memory was alright, but the screen didn't light properly. Still usable though smiley - ok

Rice could work...but since I've alread blow dried the insides and left it near a radiator, I'm fearing the worst. Unlike cellphones and pagers, you have the hard drive to worry about.

What strange manner or device is this iPod. I don't get the same problem with my LP's and 45's. There again I can't get an LP in the washing machine smiley - biggrin

My mobile phone though was fine after 24 hours on top of a radiator.

Yeah...but you can't download vinyl for free. smiley - smileysmiley - piratesmiley - whistle

Not necessarily a problem - only if one's musical tastes change over the years. smiley - run

I think of iPods as a force for stagnation and not change.

If you cant be arsed digging out a whacking great chunk of vinyl or a diddy cd (which arent perfect and eternal storage devices than you very much Mr Stapleford you and the rest of the "tomorrows World " team should all suffer in a digital hell for regurgitating that devious peice of PR on your programmesmiley - grr) then putting into or onto a suitable machine to listen to then you dont really like the thing you're listening to.

I played a rare DJ set on Saturday and dug out a few things I havent played in a while and realised why when I heard them. Sounded great when new but not so good less than two years down the line.

Geno by Dexy's and Signed Sealed Delivered by MR Wonder sounded as good as ever.

I much prefer a portable DAB or even FM radio on my phone as it makes me listen to what other people are into.

Or I can just at the back of the bus with some kids and listen to what about a dozen kids are into smiley - weird

Alternately - your house may be such a disorganised pigsty that you'd never be able to find anything you wanted to listen to. smiley - smiley It's called 'parenthood'.

Well...it's in a bag of Basmati. I'll leave it a few days and give it another go. I'm not optimistic.

As a counter to Blicky's theory....what an iPod does - provided you're not concerned about legality - is it encourages you to download all sorts of stuff just on the offchance that you might like it. Sometimes I find things that I have no memory of having put on it. I experience a similar phenomenon several years ago when I was burgled and had a bunch of CDs stolen. The advice from the police was 'make sure you don't underclaim on your insurance'. It was a fanatstic opportunity to build up a shopping list of albums on the basis of their covers looking quite interesting. smiley - smiley And I discovered some gems.

I have muscial taste which is why most modern bands don't cut the mustard young whippersnapper.

Anyway the sound quality of vinyl is soooo superior!

I have to say I somewhat agree:
'All these bands the youngsters play today...just listen to them...they've got tunes, you can hear the words, and they can even play their instruments properly...not like in my day...'

However...this is the post-revolutionary era of pop and a time for instrospection. There's still an awful lot I didn't get around to the first time round. Plus...there's always the possibility that a new act will find new things to do with the same old stuff.

Hope the rice absorbs the rest of the moisture, Ed. Fingers crossed the iPod will recover.

I've been able to copy all of my vinyl to my hard drive, with the option of leaving in the slight hiss and other "vinyl-y" sounds. Which is kind of cool- there have been times when a remastered version of a tune has been "missing" something... It's also a good thing in that much of my collection isn't available on CD.

And I can count on one hand the number of good new releases I've heard in the last decade... but in the past, I've normally heard something I've liked and then worked backwards to the influential acts rather than the other way around.

The one thing stopping me from buying a portable mp3 player is the sheer amount of time it would take for me to copy all 2,000+ CDs in my collection to my computer. smiley - yikes
