rather let the mother know your ideas - to surprise the kids (mine are rather conservative - at least concerning decoration and art)

I would - if I have the time and things that are needed
My flat is a "Sammelsurium" (sorry, don't know an English word for it) of furniture anyway - and I won't have the money to buy new things for some time. So if I get some nice ideas I'll be happy (I love the more individual look anyway)
Only thing is, I don't have a source for fabrics

No source for fabrics? Try IKEA - the new stuff's pretty horrible, but they also have a good selection of rather cheap solid colours...
I didn't buy a single piece of furniture for this flat No, wait - the trunk in front of the sofa, I bought that for 10€ at an antique shop, it was covered in black tar paint that I had to scrape off
The desk, for example, is an old door laid over two sawhorses and painted white

great ideas you have
when things are getting better here (financally, which they should do next year) I can start thinking of doing my kitchen and redecorating my living/bed/dining-room (it is an all in one room)
