Just keeping track of conversations with some margin in time makes you know what happens. "

I could recognise several Researchers, feeling their inner glow while I read their contributions to the wiki site. but not as much as I feel and read them here. 'not permitted to submit entries to Peer Review or to start new threads'

So as in 'smiley - sorry to disagree' But I am not allowed to start a new EF thread.

I even take one part a little further, I will not create or work on any entry.

This is and will probably ever be the most interesting Forum in all HooToo, many are subscribed to it even while they unsubscribe at the second posting. You never know what happens to any topic.

"On Posting I get

>Thank you for posting. Your Posting will be checked by our Moderation Team and will appear on the site once it has been approved. If you just started a new Conversation, it will only appear on your Personal Space after it has been approved.

Guess that gives a hint not to post a new thread everytime you give a reply."

"This has the advantage I have to get to know the skin.
Just have to extrapolate some extra 'features' due to my identity, I really hope so much.
The major disadvantage is I will not be able to crawl my backlog.
I still have some 20,000 threads to read. Pliny only shows me the last 500 smiley - sadface. I will not unsubscribe from them, actualy I will (ever I hope) read them chronologically. smiley - biggrin

Just heard The Gouverner of Texas on a speach
'Houses have been wiped of, completely off, of the maps'

Some terrible floodings have happened in the south of the US (and tornado storms in Mexico)

However what I do not (wish to?) understand is the scale those houses will have had, most countries only place towns, villages and roads 'on the map'. Apparently the houses in Texas are big enough to fit 'on the map'.

It is a tragedy for Mexico, those people already did have nearly nothing, now they also have lost their shelter. "

A google search reveals that the idea of houses being 'wiped off the map' is a very common locution in the UK. At least, UK newspapers have used it quite a lot before this. The Daily Mail and Blackpool Gazette seem to be chief offenders. So I wouldn't come down too hard on the governor of Texas because:

1. He's having a hard time right now.
2. He IS from Texas.

From what I can tell, this torrential rain fell on the just and the unjust - rocket scientists, middle class people, and the very poor were all rendered homeless by rushing water. One woman called her sister and told her that she was in her house, her house was floating down the river, and please pray. They haven't seen her or the kids since, I believe.

It's a tragedy for everybody. smiley - sadface

"It came to me as a curious formulation. Special as also Mexico was hit by the weather. The contrast in the reporting could not have been greater.

I know both areas have a hard time, lets hope the caller from her floating house grounded sooner then the house did break down.

(Did I do the 'of, off, of' correct in post 37 ?
This is for me as much an exercise in english as anything on this site. )"

I think the UK papers said 'off the maps'.

And I'm pretty sure someone from Texas would say 'off of the maps'.

smiley - winkeye

And no, there is no one right way to speak English. No matter what the snobs say...
