Br Magwitch, you can put straw around your strawberries, but would advise trying to clear some of the grass around them first if you can. If it proves to be too difficult, in fear of breaking the flowers then just mulch them with the straw. Hopefully it will keep some of the weeds down .

But, Nigel, don't take anything I say as stuff! I only repeat what I've heard/read, 'cos I'm 80% , therefore thick by definition, and 20% 'enterprising', for which read 'can't resist trying everything and frequently breaks it'.
Yesterday we planned a day out. Normally we just go, but this time we decided that we'd do it properly. We 'collect', as in photograph, village signs, so we checked the database and the map and planned a fairly tight schedule. Halfway there, the heavens opened. Dilemma: do we because the excursion has been ruined? Or do we and go home to gloat over the drinking plants in a parched garden? . We arrived home to find the same arid landscape that we'd left. However, the Belt has Moved North, and we've got it. All together now, 1, 2, 3......YIPPEE!!! Thanx, guys.
Dig.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
