Prof, you will give me a bad reputation........oh, I already have one .
SeraphicDigitalis (aka LadyDig), the free CD's that come with magazines are tempting but have caused me an awful amount of problems over the years that I won't use them now. I am being very careful what I load onto my new computer thinking carefully before I do, just in case it screws things up . However, I must back-up more; on this computer there is a program which backs-up automatically. I haven't a clue how it works but must read the manual to find out.
Br Magwitch, we can always hold a private belated birthday party with lots of inviting hoo-too'ers only . It wouldn't take much or to get me . On second thoughts, I would have to stick to as I can't drink alcohol because of all the medication I am on . I would certainly turn green and glow if I did .
Thanks for the .
All the best.

Good to see you back!
My own pc (an HP Compaq) has been getting distressingly warm occasionally when I go away and leave it running with some program or another on automatic. Maybe I need to allow it more cool down time... and re-escalate my efforts to get the backup systems and pc up and running.
...and many more happy returns!

Backing-up? Don't tell a soul but I find the instructions for auto thingies so complicated that I shove everything onto a USB stick, then shove it into the receptacle next time I'm passing. I missed floppies at first, but these are as good and bigger!
Switching-off? Isn't it supposed to be greener to switch off than to leave it hibernating? On the other hand (to coin a wotsit) it seems as wasteful to keep switching on/off as to switch fluo' lights for a minute or two. Heigh-ho. wot's a girl (girl?????????) to do?
Glad to hear things are improving Nigel. Don't do anything daft!

System is slowing down again. 30 seconds to boot to this screen from the 'post to' button. Time better yesterday and much worse the day before.
I wish I could find a way to tell the program not to power down to a dark screen. Irritating when I'm watching a running visual display and the system keeps requiring a manual over-ride every fifteen minutes on the built in auto-slumber. There's got to be some way to turn that off.

Br Magwitch, that isn't a bad idea.........me being a gardener, I am sure to be able to grow the odd plant or two . Problem is when I have a routine blood test, it would show up that I have been a naughty boy .
SeraphicDigitalis, that is what I usually do, back up on a USB stick. I find it quick and easy to do it that way. Problem is I forget, which is when something happens. On this new machine, there is an auto back-up device. I must work out how it works sometime . SeraphicDigitalis, can I put you on my friends list?
ITIWBS, computers can be a pain sometimes . I have an Apple imac which are lovely machines to use. I love mine to bits, especially this new one, the last one was faulty though which caused the meltdown . I also have a Vista Laptop which I use occasionally, but prefer the imac for its bigger screen .
Frenchbean, I think I have stopped glowing but are not quite sure . I don't look quite so green so I am okay I think .
Prof. Thanks for the links, I will also bookmark them, as they look very interesting in case my laptop ever plays up .
I am supposed to be going to a meal today with the daycare people, but I have decided not to go. One of my tablets has been changed, and the new ones are causing me breathing problems, not sleeping and feeling generally . I am off to pop a note to my doctor soon to see if I can go back onto the usual ones as they make me feel a little better. He took me off them because of making me , but I would rather put up with that then having further uncomfortable side effects .
Take care, my friends. Thanks for your kind thoughts.

The medical profession tend to 'overlook' certain substances - particularly when there is some much evidence ~(both anecdotal and scientific) that it can help certain patients. Queen Victoria used to use the same substance for menstrual pain, allegedly Have a word with your lot. I can send you some rather yummy recipes.

Frenchbean, A visit to Oz would be fantastic. If I could cope with the traveling, It would be a real adventure . I have never flown before so I would be very nervous . Perhaps in the future, you never know .
Br Magwitch, I have heard of some rather good recipes like different cakes and herbal tea's . I am on soo much other medication, my room is like a chemist .

Man alive! My hubby has so many different medications that *if* I could lift him up and shake him he'd rattle like a maracca (sp?)(he's 6' 2" and 'rather large' and I'm a tiny ickle thing at 4' 11") You should see his monthly prescription bags!

My grandad used to be on a lot of medication, he always used to say he needs to take his wheelbarrow with him to collect his monthly order .
I am 6'2", probably shake like a maracca too . I will have to start a 'maracca' club .
It is quite a nice afternoon out, very humid but dry . Just been down to my greenhouse and are pleased to see my Swede seedlings sprouting nicely. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the new packet of leek seeds to come up now .

Nigel, I should be proud. May I reciprocate - if that's the word I want? As for memory sticks, I read somewhere that they're not terribly stable, so shouldn't be trusted with valuable stuff indefinitely. Depends how important your docs etc are, I suppose.
I dunno anything about the Fruity Ones, tho' I believe Webbie swears by them - if she ever swears, that is. As for Vista, so far, I love it, but then I haven't yet thrown down my usual challenge, which normally ends in tears.
If you run out of garden, there's one here which is beginning (= has begun) to overface the Ancient Britons.....

Eep my strawberries have been left too late! There are many, many flowers, amid grass. Should I just mulch the buggars with straw?
