Well, sometimes there isn't that much else to do in Hobart.
Do you know which bar it was? There are some that look like they've been designed for brawling, and others that look just right for taking your great-grandmother along for a glass of sherry on Sunday afternoon.

Hi Ivan!
I must reply to your email- but I have Major Dental Work scheduled for tomorrow and meeting my dad and uncle for brunch (potentially mushy brunch on my part) on Sunday, so it may have to wait till tomorrow or Sunday afternoon.
(Re: dental work- broke a cusp off of a molar last Saturday. It may only need a filling- worst case scenario, but unlikely, a root canal. Also I need Deep Root Cleaning, which is the electric brush thingy, but below the gumline, with a wire brush, and with some anesthesia. Sadly, it's been years since a dentist would give me diazepam and nitrous oxide in addition to Novocain, which has only a slight numbing effect on me, so I'll be in a fair bit of pain tomorrow morning, for a couple of hours. )

That sounds deeply rooted. Sorry...
Anyway. Email can always wait until the right moment. I really should get my wits together and do a Tasmania journal. Maybe this afternoon, or maybe not.

Take your time
, I don't think the name of the bar was mentioned
Friend of mine told me about an uncle who brew his own moonshine.
Friend cautiously asked: "Is this strong?"
Uncle answered "Strong? Define strong. I don't think this is stronger than three brawls per liter

It went much better than anticipated- this dentist was very gentle and kind and I hardly felt a thing at all. And I didn't need the dreaded root canal- just a big filling. The root planing didn't even hurt!

That's reassuring; I should see a dentist one of these days...

Yes, you should Ivan. Then you can avoid the horrors of root planing entirely.
Thanks for the moral support, Pierce. It helps a lot that I vented beforehand and went in feeling less anxious. It also helped that explaining to the doctor beforehand that I do have difficulty getting numb and I do get really anxious made a difference in how he treated me. My old dentist was less patient and the procedure considerably more painful. This time, I barely felt a thing and what I did feel didn't really hurt, just felt weird. That and the fact that he recognized it when my gag reflex made me choke on the water and would stop, suction, and let me rest for a second before continuing. I'm going back next Saturday to do the other side (they only do half of your mouth at a time) and I'll be even less nervous then!
So now I can give my full attentions back to worrying about Ivan's health and being amused by anecdotes about young Ghengis, who sounds like a delightful little demon.

It sounds like your new dentist is a huge improvement over your old one. I've had some teeth out in the past (my mouth is too small so I've had four molars plus two wisdom teeth out over the years) but thankfully the anasthetic has always been good enough to knock out all the pain. I agree it leaves you feeling weird though!

To return to the subject line for a moment:
I'll be offsite until the weekend. I reappeared at the office this morning and there's so much to be done... It won't take me any longer than my usual business hours, but it will kill off my energy levels if I'm not careful. So I shall do that stuff I get paid for, and I shall rest at all other times, and with any luck I'll be back here at the weekend.
Ivan.
