Ivan the Terribly Average

I'm back now and I'm feeling very, very unwell. Seeing the doctor this afternoon if I live that long.

Speaking of painful things, can anyone tell me why my saved link to that Noses/Nooses/Noesis/whatever place won't work? Rather than taking me to the noohootoo forums it now takes me to the general forums, which are about as interesting as a poke in the eye.

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

As interesting as that? smiley - winkeye

Is this the link you are using? http://forum.noesify.com/index.php?/forum/166-h2g2/

Apparently I don't have permission to view that forum. What a load of crap Noesis is.

If I had the energy I'd ask Vip to sort it out. But I don't. Not now, at any rate.

Welcome home, Ivan. Sorry you are feeling so ill smiley - hug

Noesis are working hard with the Tech Team, which seems to have locked people out of some areas, although you are the first to say you have been closed out completely. Vip has been asked not to try opening doors at this stage, so it could be a little while before you get back in smiley - erm

I'll catch up with you later, hunny smiley - smooch

Vip

Unfortunately, as lil says, I've been locked out for now so I can't get in there and sort you out.

If it's any consolation there is very little going on in the general areas at the moment, we're all chatting over here.

Vip, if you've been locked out too we must all be doomed or something. Doomed, I say.

Bear in mind that I'm typing in an atmosphere of gloom, eucalyptus fumes and paracetemol. Some exaggeration might occur. And I'm also recovering from a week spent with a 5-year-old whose nickname is Ghengis.

Sorry sorry, I've not been locked out of noesis full stop, just from the permissions tools bit. smiley - smiley

Mmmm, eucalyptus. And Ghengis sounds... full of spirit!

Full of . . . something - in the case of a 5 year old, energy probably.

Energy, and an eagerness to learn and frustration with herself at the slowness with which she's learning to read. She'll settle down eventually.

Reading - my two found it very frustrating to be able to comprehend (when read to them) much more advanced stuff than they were able to read for themselves. As one of my daughters described a book she was trying to decipher "It's so difficult Daddy, it's just word word word."

This one can understand more than she realises. She can also latch onto adult concepts with alarming ease. 'Mummy, what's an autopsy?'

As it turns out, an autopsy is something she'd like to do to Grandma when the opportunity's there. I wonder if Grandma's going to be told this or not.

I well remember some friends of my parents who had always vowed to be open and frank with their children when asked questions - however potentially embarassing.

When asked by their young (5 or 6 year old) daughter, "Mummy, what is a prostitute?" it was rather carefully explained that this was someone, usually a lady, who had sex for money etc. The daughter knew from previous explanations that this was something that people did when they loved each other very much, so to be paid for it as well prompted a response of "That's what I'd like to be when I grow up!"

Add some codeine to the paracetamol and you'll sleep... at least I do nowadays. Or nowanights since it's a bad idea sleeping at w*rk...

Maybe wee can keep each other company outside noesis since I'm apparently not the only one locked out. I thought it just was me... even though I must admit I was relieved when I stopped being spammed by the lunatics in the general forums.

In general I think you should avoid doing autopsies on people you know, regardless their wishes. You're biased and risk to overlook important findings. Just as you should avoid in general to be smiley - doctor for people you know.

I did see the doctor, and he didn't help all that much. *sigh* I could have worked out 'paracetemol/fluids/rest' all by myself. I'll try adding codeine. smiley - zen

I really should write about Tasmania in my journal, but it will have to wait until I feel up to it.

Hi Pierce. Tasmania is very proud of 'Our Mary'. Apart from anything else, more people can find Tasmania on a map now. And there are small Danish flags in all sorts of odd places in Hobart.

I'll be having some codeine quite soon, then lying down again.

There have been special ties between Hobart and Marstal (on the minute Danish island Ærø) for many decades. Since there were so few jobs on Ærø young boys became sailors and travelled the seven seas for many years until they either returned as old age pensioners - or went down with their ships...

They say of marstallers that they are like starlings: You can find them everywhere on the smiley - earth

Hobart is still a maritime hub at the end of the world. Lots of sailing boats, and commercial fisheries, and tourist ships, and the French Antarctic research vessel L'Astrolabe was moored opposite the Tasmanian Parliament.
