Traveller in Time sending pulse trains over his nerveous tracks
"Very basically painkillers reduce the progress of sensory information nerves.
Nerve cells do not stretch from your toes to your head in one go. There are special gaps between two nerve cells most pain killers reduce the transmission of chemicals over the gaps of sensory nerves.
Something like reducing the volume of an audio amplifier.
Very loud sounds overmodulate the amplifier (pain), reducing the volume will make them just music, where all the other sounds are still there.
This implies using a pain killer for painfull legs also reduces pain in your fingers. It does not know where to go, it reduces all sensory input to an 'acceptable' level. "

And large pains hurt more than small pains because of natural pain killers. Just your brain thinks you too much of a wuss to get them when you get a splinter, stub your toe etc. Pffrrrr what does he/ she/ it know.

If cough medicine is a placebo, can you OD on it?
Well THAT was embarrasing...
Arisztid Lugosi Posted Sep 16, 2004
hmm.... i'm not sure... i think you'll have to ask someone who knows more about cough medecine...
what exactly is supposed to happen if you OD on things like ibuprofin and acetiminaphin? (yes i know i spelled them wrong)
i did once, and nothing happened. my sciencs final went jsut fine... and then i went out to do something wiht my mom...

Not /all/ cough medicines are placebos. Actually as far as I know (which isn't far, so I could be very wrong) most cough medicines don't actually have any medicine in them, just stuff which sticks to your throat and feels good and helps you swallow and stuff, but doesn't actually have any chemical effect.
I do know for certain, though, that you /can/ OD on anything and everything. Some things take a while, though. Like one of my close friends tried to OD on disprin (the basic and cheapest form of asprin over here)... she would have OD'd on calcium before anything else, but she ran out of tabs first 'coz they don't have much effect. Dunno what would actually happen if you OD'd on ibuprofin and acetiminaphin (I think ibuprofin may be right, but I have no clue how to spell either of them, really.) I do /not/ recommend ODing on citalopram. Or clinazopam (sp?), for that matter. Or whisky. Or come to think of it any kind of alcohol is bad I guess. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Not going there again.

Copper Sulphate is poisonous. 10g will kill someone. I don't know how much 10g is though so I can't try it on my science teacher who has an obsession with it.

hmm..
well just so you all know, i didnt intend to overdose on painkillers... it just kinda happened. i wasnt paying attention to the time. and none of the otheres seemed to work, and i was in a lot of pain....
did you hear about the girls and the copper sulphate and the slurpies?
Well THAT was embarrasing...
Lord Job Boron. That's Lord Job Boron To You! Posted Sep 19, 2004
No. What happened?
Have they invented an emotional painkiller yet? Something more legal than drugs and less depressing than alcohol. And Anti Depressants don't count because they're perscription.

well..
there was girl 1 and she was jealous because girl 2 had stolen her boyfriend. so girl 1 and two of her friends girls 3 and 4 stole some copper sulpahte from the science lab at school. then later when they were all out toghether they went and got slurpies. girl 2 got a bluie one and while she wasnt looking one of the other girls put copper sulpahte in it... then later girl 2 drank it, but so did girls 1, 3, and 4.... it was so stupid!!! why would you do that if you kenw what was in it? anyways it wasnt enough to kill them, but it made them all very sick and i think they had to go to the hospital... but i still dont understand why no one tasted it ... apparently it has a very metallic taste..
