Been sorting things out so have not had chance to post until now.
Mrs Vestie is the proud owner of several scars and sore bits and is sitting up in bed eating like a horse and being very stoical.
The operation started at 0730 yesterday morning and she came back to the ward at 1800 in the early evening. I was worried sick by the end of it as I had no idea why it was taking so long. Apparently the medics all expectedc to take 9+ hours so I wondered why they didn't tell us that before hand.
So, she is in some pain but happy to have visitors.
We have to watch the recovery like hawks as the next worry is infection.
I've never alcohol washed my hands so many times! I think they may have a hangover in the morning.
Thanks for all the positive support. I really appreciate it.

Yes, I may have to take the nose bag away from her though.

Ray! Some good news!
Glad to hear it went well and Mrs Vestie is ... eating a horse?
*Puts glasses back on*
Oh - I see!

She was sitting in a chair today. Tomorrow they hope to have her walking a little bit. They haven't said when she'll be strong enough to give me a fireman's lift but I wait in great expectation.

There are notices all over the hospital referring to a woman called Mrs A. Apparently she's not very well received. They seem to want us to wash our hands of her.

Mrs Vestie may be coming home tomorrow. The physiotherapists need to check that she can climb stairs. She's not to lift anything heavy with her right arm, which apparently includes the iron, vaccuum cleaner and pots and pans.
*dons chef's hat, pinnie and rubber gloves.*

Demonstration fireman's lift plans on hold for now, then?
Glad to hear she's coming home - so what have you been eating so far? (Or have you been playing fast and loose and cooking without pinnie and chef's hat?)

Oh, I can cook alright - do most of it anyway as I work closer to home.

Keep it down - I've been using that excuse for years.

Mrs Vestie had the stitches out yesterday and is now at that stage when doctors and nurses say "It looks grand" and anyone else would go a bit green and need to sit down.
The doc told her that in terms of reconstruction surgery it doesn't get any more challenging than this (i.e. The op that she had). I can believe him. It's a bit like transplant surgery but you are both the donor and the recipient.
*Goes a bit green and sits down.*

*Passes Vestie some Alka-seltzer.*
Glad she's doing better.
