Enough With the US Bashing
FairlyStrange Started conversation Sep 22, 2001
No one will read this....which I really hate. If I post this anywhere else, it will only lead to more "we hate the US because" discussions.
Every forum I've been in on the subject of September 11 has wound its' way back to why everyone hates our government. Well...sometimes its' well founded....in your eyes.
I'm sorry your own government doesn't look out for your citizens' best interest, ours does. If its' not good for us, they don't do it...if it is, they are unstoppable in their quest.
For you Brits who dislike us so, please keep in mind that you created us. We still consider you the Mother Country. Just don't forget why the first settlers came here....to escape the terrany(sp.?)and oppression of your government. Could we say you were "arrogant"? Remember, this was back when "The Sun Never Sets on the British EMPIRE". What is this..."pot calling kettle black"? Are you so enlightened that you have forgotten where you have been?
Before you jump the gun and start saying that I just don't understand the world, keep in mind I'm no fool. No, I don't know the political problems in Italy, France or Germany.....but do you know the political problems in Tennessee, Mississippi or Montana? Do you even know where those places are?
You don't understand the physical SIZE of this great nation. We are 50 individual countries....most the size of any one European nation...united under a common leadership. Each of our little states has its' own rights and responsibilities, but for anything on an international scale, the "Federal" government has the authority.
We are a nation of immigrants. We all came here to get away from somewhere else(and you wonder why we don't give a hoot if you like us or not!?).....yes, even our "Native Americans" are from somewhere else.(though they got here LONG before we did.)
Myself...I proudly wear the Scottish sirname of Wallace....but in my viens runs the history of French, German and Cherokee. I am deeply proud of ALL of them. The viens of my country run rich with the lifeblood, knowledge and wisdom of every nation and creed on the face of this earth.
The world made us what we are. Why are we proud?....because the world brought us together, and it worked. No, it ain't been easy, but it worked. That only proves that arrogance has a place....when it is deserved.

I think more people read these then you think, but this is the first time I'm really responding, as I want to say something.
I won't say all I Have to say about what you wrote, but I will tell you what I think about your goverment (I'm from Israel if youre interested to know)
1. First of all, to clarify: I DO think your goverment does what it does from interests, and not in order to make the world a better place from the ideologic point ov view. I don't think this is a bad thing, just a fact.
2. I think America has done more good then any other country in the world, and also done some devestating things. America works to "make the world a better place" BECAUSE IT IS IN AMERICA's INTEREST. We can just be thankful for that, and hope it stays that way.
3. Everybody will always hate or at least look narrow eyed at whoever is successfull.
4. I understand how it feels to be criticised by everyone (Belive me, we Israelies get much more injustice by the general public AND media then Americans), all I have to say to that is and that you get used to it
I'll continue in a new post, because I'm writing this without a text editor, so it is kind of a save...

Where was I, oh I was trying to say some stuff about how I feel for you having to face all this negetive posts from the other researchers.
Well, it is all that frustrating, and hard to get over, but you know, it is just stuff that people write because they either don't really know what they are talking about, but thing they do because they are "informed" by the media, or just can't understand how countries work.
People think of these things in people terms instead of country terms.
America has been helping Israel for a long time, but still, didn't really allow nor act to eliminate terror. This was because it wasn't something that was an immediate threat to America, so it is acceptable, that America will make sure not to loose public oppinion over it, and surely not American life. Now that it is an immidiate threat, America is promising to do more then is even possible for israel, or anyone else, to do.
Got a lot more to say, but I'm afraid I'll be boaring and repeat myself too meny times, it is something close and emotional for me. Sorry if I babbled too much.
Peace,
Dancer

No, you are niether boring nor babbeling.
I am pleasantly surprised to have a visitor to my humble page.....and even more-so one.... from a nation I so deeply respect. Your people are an impressive bunch! I think some of our folks could learn quite a bit about tenacity a determination from your citizens!
We, here, tend to be a bit out of touch with world events, since most things that happen in the world have no affect on our general population. This time it did.
What worries me is that our people will forget too quickly.
We do that here....I wish I knew why. I guess its' hard to keep 300,000,000 peoples mind focused on a single point for very long.
I only hope our government remembers....and does something beneficial(they tend to "screw" that point from time to time).

Thanks, it is not often that I hear kind words about my country and the people that live in it. Usually we are talked about as oppressors, and I got so tired from the injustice and frustration that follows attempts to correct it that I approach conversations on the subject with care.
I guess it *is* easier to keep 5,000,000 people focused on something constant then 3*10^8 people focused on something that is an extream exception (as COLOSSAL as it might be).
But I do belive that your goverment is strong minded enough and determined on the subject and I hope that they do the right desicision ang pull through with it all the way.
Like the former Prime Minister of Israel said, this is like it was with the Pirats. The seas and oceans were flooded with them, and the world fought to stop it. Noe the same MUST be done with Terror.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see (actually, if a real war will come, I'm on a reserve force in the Israeli AirForce).
Peace,
Dancer

Oh...I have a feeling this is a real war. We tend to try to not get involved if it does not concern our interests, or we are not asked......
...this one hit too close to home.....and we are not well known(nor too good at) doing things in a small way.
What really goeds me, though....I'm an old hippie..I understand the anti-war sentiment all too well. There just comes a time when all the diplomacy in the world won't work. A time when you understand that there is only one way to cure a problem. I don't want to see it anymore than anyone else in the world does....but it HAS to be done!
We are not imperialist. We have no desire to control or take over foriegn lands. Lord knows we have more than we can handle in this place we call home, already! The world has not asked us to help....but its' no longer in the worlds' areana. It was brought to us, and as your nation so aptly demonstrates....its' time to take it back to them.
Our people(not the polititians) want blood. I only hope they can hold that pose until our leaders can act. And I hope our leaders do not over-react. That is the one thing that could possibly be worse than what has already happened!

Actually the GAS is just a luck coincidance
I had a regular long username til lately, it was:
"Dancer (Scout, GA, Greeblet95, Muse of Human Sensory) If you are a programmer, go to A604937"
But we had a conversation about a bug and changing the names back to MS-DOS format (8.3 charachters), so I changed it, and it now means:
Dancer (That's me)
95 (My Greeblet number)
. (dot/point/stop)
GA (Guardian Angle)
S (Scout)
It was supposed to be Dancer95.SGA, but I thought the GAS would be more approperiate

I suppose I should add my "Greeblet"......but I've avoided tacking on end messages for 3 years, now. I don't want there to be any confusion over whether you've been in the presents of the CORRECT "Fairly Strange"!
'Course, I can't imagine anyone fool enough to try and steal my "moniker".....who would want it!?

If you do something the same way for three years, you shouldn't chnge it, it becomes your trademark.
I was really sorry when MingMang took off her endint (it was something a bit similiar but entierly unlike this: "Not ever one to write fancy additions after her name")
And why do you sign NM? To my knowledge youre initilas are WM, and NM means Never Mind.
There's no point in ending EERY posting with Never Mind

LOL....forgive my laugh, but "NM" does not mean "nevermind".!
A few of the "old guard" around here know what it means(don't ask)....they are sworn to secrecy!
My excuse is that my wife, known in here as Monsy, and I share a computer. When I put up the "NM" you know its' me.....even if the "Nick" says Monsy....basically, I'm N-ot M-onsy.
If you believe that, I've got a bridge I need to talk to you about!

If I look really hard at your backlog will I find the answer to what the NM mean?
So tell me about that bridge, sounds interesting. I was actually thinking about investing in a bridge, or maybe some ripe swampland
