Wowbagger's DNA Wake
Wowbagger Started conversation May 13, 2001
Now I'm sure there will be a lot of tributes to DNA, having already said a few words in some. But, for what it's worth, a wake should be organised. I looked around but couldn't find any.
So I guess I could have a go.
This forum can be a place where the odd can be drunk and amusing tales can be told, all in the name of one of the best.
Cheers DNA

Wowbagger's DNA Wake
Wowbagger Posted May 13, 2001
As it's early in the piece I'll start.
*downs *
What I respect most about DNA was the way he made me look at sentences in new way. Oddly constructed phrases continually lept out from the page and strangle me.
Ships hanging in the air in much the same way that bricks don't. People semming to be looking at something other than what they seemed to be looking at. David Bowies grouped together to form a person who didn't look exactly like that person, but who that person's friends thought looked strangely familiar. Super-intelligent shades of the colour blue.
All fantastic fodder to warp an impressionable teenager's mind.
Cheers DNA
You taught me to read AND pay attention.

*Joins in...*
*Grabs a of San Betian Seawater.*
I couldn't believe it when I heard the news.
I was in another forum, and someone said they couldn't speak because of something mentioned on the Front Page. I though "Oh no, what are the BBC doing to us this time?" and went to look. The whole page was empty apart from apicture of DNA. I just knew what'd happened...
But let us not be put down by this! Think of all the things he's done! h2g2 is still here, so we have all our friends, and he's unwillingly changed civilisation as we know it with his books!
Plus, I wouldn't be the unnerving person I now am without the inspiration of his books! Now aren't we glad of that, eh?
*Downs the Seawater, and gets some more...*

So true Prof
The one place everyone thought to come to was this site... what a wonderful tribute it is to the books and the man that this site will live on

*Realises he's drinking the non-alcoholic version of San Betian Seawater, and swaps it for some alcoholic stuff.*
Yes, this site will live on!!
Long Live h2g2!!
I'm awaiting a tribute programme about DNA on the BBC. They'd better make one quick like!
And re-run the old TV series.

There are many things I credit (blame?) DNA for in my life, but probably the most pernicious is the urge to say 'share and enjoy' at every appropriate (and inappropriate) moment. I once even programmed my computer to flash it at people, and if you know anything about my computer skills, you will realise that this is a tribute indeed.
*raises a cup of tea which tastes almost, but not quite, completely unalike the real thing, and howls*
SHARE AND ENJOY.

I can still remember the first time I read the books
And how my dad bought me the omnibus edition to make up for breaking my favourite mug.

What a coincidence, my dad bought me the omnibus edition too.
You know, I couldn't get through the first chapter without falling to bits in laughter.

I hardly manage the introduction: "some unhelpful remarks from the author"

Kicks it off nicely doesn't it? I like the bit about "How to Leave the Planet."

I can't pick a favourite bit! It's impossible
But then some of the best conversations I have had have been with almost complete strangers, discussing our favourite HHGTTG moments and quotes

Something tells me that an awful lot of people around the world will have reached for the Books or their tapes or cd's this weekend.
I think that we will be taking them to Het Kasteel this afternoon, along with a printout of a certain cartoon which has come in my direction! (Thanx Wowbagger... you cheered me up no end!)
shazz: the slowly creeps back.

You are most welcome.
Oh great. I'm mixing my drinks.
How does one get MP3s made of their tapes?
My copy of the radio series needs to come to work with me!
Or... big are the files? And can someone email them to me?

If you go to Zenith Radio they are devoting all their airtime to playing interviews, the series and a great docu with Peter Jones!:

You will need to d/l the 365 player... but it's very small!
The streaming is perfect!
I am listening right now
