Hmm. I'd go with vole - bigger than a mouse, but cats would eat it. Can't be a rat because of the poison thing. Smaller than a mug? Vole. Definitely vole.

Lemmings? Little chaps, rush around going 'eep' a lot? Naah - with the proper encouragement I'm sure they'd be happy to squish themselves into a mug

Badgers! Right now! All four! Got the torch on them again - their eyes go all shiny Oo, there's a lot of flying thingies and they're all coming straight at me. Better switch it off.
