I have just spoken to Frenchbean much to her surprise 
She says to say thank you for the concern - she is on the mend and hopefully will be back soon. She sounds a bit croaky, but the antibiotics have kicked in and she is feeling a little better. It sounded a nasty infection.

Thank you all for your concern. I hadn't realised that F had left quite such an alarming message in post 1 
My neck was swollen, but not life-threatening at any time. I could swallow, although I coulnd't open my mouth much.
It felt like somebody had hit me over the side of the face with a tray and then inflated it with a bicycle pump. Very very painful.
I then had a nasty reaction to one of the painkillers I was prescribed, which didn't exactly aid my recovery.
Anyways.... all on the mend now. I'm left a wee bit weak and wibbly, but feeling like a human bean again
