Well this has not exactly been a spectacular success thus far. I am finding it difficult to get started.

Busy at work and problems at home havent helped. smiley - blue

Want to start on Monday together, FB? I also need a bit of support. I'm doing okay on the extra exercise bit (well, a bit anyhow) but it might be good to have a 'diet buddy', you know?

Well, think about it.

Get on; sounds good to me.

As it is my Birthday on Sunday this weekend dieting is not going to be on the agenda anyhow.

Trouble is the next two weekends are weddings, my Uncle Kendal next weekend and my Mums the weekend after that.

smiley - groan Always happens when you wanna diet right?

Yeah, f**kin annoying or what? To be honest, Noggin's sister and brother in law are visiting next week so there will be some serious 'tapearing' going on until Friday.

In any case, it *isn't* a diet. It's a lifestyle change.

Hate diets, they never work, they are full of sh*t.

But making some changes makes sense. Which shouldn't preclude having a social life. So, we start on Monday.

Eat a little less, do a little more.

Deal?

Late Sunday afternoon. Gearing up for Monday . . . the countdown has started. Having my last few cigs (as I only smoke with wine and after tomorrow won't be drinking . . . much).

Actually, having Noggin's sister and brother-in-law here next week won't be a major issue (in terms of taking them out for a good time) as they are both teetotal. So it won't feel so weird when I order a mineral water with my food.

Anyhow, my focus is going to be on becoming more active, doing my yoga classes twice a week as well as getting on the exercise bike at home and starting up a regular exercise routine.

You do have the advantage of being twenty years younger than me, but I reckon we are both going to do just fine. smiley - smiley

Sorry to intrude, but I could join you?

I recently discovered that my "loose" jeans were actually skin tight smiley - yikes, so I really need to shift a few pounds (or kilos, not fussy)

My strategy is to jog before breakfast (not every morning, but at least 3 times a week), drink at least a litre of water per day, and cut down on the crisps and chocolate.

How's it going with you 2?

Um . . .

I actually cringed when I saw this thread pop up again on my PS because I've not *quite* got into the new lifestyle change thingy yet . . . but I haven't given up on it.

So yes please, Lucky, join us!

The visit from the in-laws turned into a week-long food frenzy, as it turned out. But they are gone now and I'm back to yoga classes tomorrow (took last week off while they were here).

Curiously, Noggin's brother-in-law said he had recently lost two stone and simply by getting on the exercise bike three times a day for about ten minutes at a time. smiley - erm Heck, if it's that easy then I can do that.

Anyhow, glad to have someone else 'on board' here. Can I ask you to nag me a bit? Or even a lot?

I'll go with the "little but frequently" theme.smiley - ok

I was out this morning at just after 7, as the dawn was just starting to light up the sky. And my new house means I can jog along the shores of Belfast Lough, so aside from waves and birds to provide the soundtrack, there are also boats gliding past, planes coming in to land, and trains zooming by on the embankment above me. (strange angle!)

Right you! What are you intending to do in the next 24 hours?

I have been "weak" I am afraid.

My birthday followed by my Uncle Kendalls wedding this weekend have led me to gorging.

I am currently really ill and am likely to be comfort eating a bit....

weak. Like I said.

Well, okay, I was almost going to put off going back to yoga until next week (the classes at the gym are on Monday and Wednesday mornings) but I shall now start back tomorrow!

And since we do actually have an exercise bike here collecting dust (Noggin and I bought it last spring) I reckon at least one - if not two - fifteen minute 'rides' a day wouldn't be asking too much. The first ten minutes are nothing, it's the last five that start making you sweat a bit. And a fifteen minute ride is about 100 calories burned. Better than nuthin.

I am going to try and kill the cold with a *hot* chilli con carne with brown basmati rice. So whilst not exactly healthy not exactly gluttonous either.

No, not 'weak', FB, just circumstancial.

That's the thing, isn't it? Getting started. It often feels like it has to be *all or nothing* when in fact just doing this or that bit here and there *will* start making a difference.

I think it's important not to think of the beginning lifestyle-changes as those that are going to result in immediate weight loss. Gotta walk before you can run. It's more about making these little 'extras' in terms of daily or thrice-weekly exercise feel like the norm. So that if you *don't* get to yoga class, or take that run along the beach, or ride the bike you start to miss it.
